NRCS requires CEMA 216 Soil Health Testing to be completed by a Qualified Individual for your EQIP or CSP Regenerative Pilot Program (RPP) contract. AFT holds that credential and designs your sampling strategy and report — you collect your own samples under our guidance, keeping this service affordable and accessible, and pay discounted lab fees directly to our accredited, NRCS-compliant laboratory partner. This ensures that you can move forward with your contract and receive your payments.

What You’re Responsible For

NRCS says, “Individuals working under the guidance or management of a QI are allowed to collect soil samples for this CEMA.” This is how we can serve producers anywhere in the country, including areas with no Qualified Individual nearby, at a lower cost than a model built around in-person visits. You handle the parts of the process you’re already equipped to do yourself, and we handle the rest.

  • Confirming with your NRCS planner whether a pre-work conference is required, or sending us their written approval to proceed
  • Collecting your own soil samples, following our training materials and sampling plan/map
  • Shipping samples to our lab partner, Ward Laboratories
  • Paying lab fees directly to Ward Laboratories (10% discount when working with us)
  • If using AFT-Prepared Mapping: taking a geo-tagged photo at each sampling location (requires a smartphone and email address — we’ll help you through it)

    Speak with your NRCS planner

    They may require a pre-work conference before sampling takes place. If so, you will need to set up a time for the three of us to talk. If not, just send us their written approval to proceed.

    Get your sampling plan

    We design a strategy based on your goals and fields, and set you up with maps.

  4. 04

    Collect your samples

    Follow our training materials, ship samples to our laboratory partner, and pay their discounted fees.

  5. 05

    Get your report

    Once results come back, we interpret them and deliver a complete, NRCS-ready report.
Pricing

Our remote support model keeps costs as low as possible while helping make sure your projects and payments aren’t held up.

AFT’s service fee depends on the number of tests performed per each round*. Look in your NRCS-1155 contract form to determine the planned amount per year, see image below. (1 planned CEMA 216 includes three soil tests, 2 planned 216s includes six soil tests, etc.) One round of testing should be completed in the first year of RPP contracts, and another round in the fifth year.

*Pricing is based per round. Rates cannot be combined with subsequent rounds of testing.
